The question of whether a decentralized cloud computing network should leave its own chain for Solana went to a governance vote on Oct. 26, 2026.

Figures reported on Oct. 27 showed near 98 percent yes.

Holders can still vote through 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026, leaving the outcome undecided for now.

The quorum threshold was already cleared, though totals may still move. The network is called Akash, a venue for renting computing capacity.

Its activity takes place on akashnet-2, a sovereign chain put together with Cosmos tools.

A public request for a host chain came from the team on Dec. 15, 2025, as the process began.

Every hard requirement was met by Solana and an Ethereum layer-2 during selection. The team announced Solana as its pick and explained why on Oct. 26, 2026, as voting began.

The stated reasons were lower costs under load, no single operator and a base of peer infrastructure networks already there. The network would stop running a chain of its own on Solana under the plan. Its transactions would be confirmed by validators on Solana after the move.

The Solana Foundation made an offer of engineering and audit support for the effort. The team added that the plan does not rest on that help at all.

Any AKT on another Cosmos-linked chain must come back to akashnet-2 ahead of time. AKT from other chains is not accepted by the portal as designed.

Exchanges move customer balances themselves according to their own plans.

Moves from console wallets happen automatically as part of the process. People holding AKT in self-custody connect a Cosmos wallet and name a Solana address.

Holders do not need any SOL to go through with it.

The marketplace is not moved by this vote at the present time. Current leases and governance on akashnet-2 keep going for the present. The marketplace cannot relocate until audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote all succeed.

That vote is what would pin down the cutover point in the end. After cutover, fresh deployments would go to Solana in place of the old chain.

The old chain would wind down until it halts.

Providers would update their software and register again on Solana after cutover. Deployment files stay with tenants across the move.

Once the halt arrives, validators lose their role at that point.

AKT would cross over by way of a one-way portal at a 1-to-1 rate. Tokens sent leave the old chain, meaning the total stays put.

AKT on Solana remains unavailable until the vote clears and two audits conclude. The team will say when in due course. Approval would clear the way for AKT to launch on Solana’s network.

It would be issued under SPL, the shared token format on Solana. AKT stays with its ticker and six decimals.

Portal moves are one-way only in any case.

Wallets and exchanges can add Solana AKT once it is live when they are ready. Support for the token may arrive before the marketplace moves.

Governance is able to block the marketplace cutover until the last stretch before it. Moving tokens through the portal is a one-way step once it opens for all holders. Other infrastructure networks have already left their own chains for Solana before.

The team described the route as tested for moves like this.

Holders are weighing whether a working network should give up its own chain with their votes. The result shapes where its compute market will live over the long term.
