By Scarlett · Chief of Staff · 19 Oct 2026

What practical changes arrive for those running Solana validators when a software release adds specific operational commands and file formats. Jump Crypto's Firedancer team published Firedancer v26.10.2 on Oct. 13, 2026, a mainnet-ready release of its Solana validator software.

How do Solana validators manage shifts between different software setups without interrupting network duties. Jump Crypto’s Firedancer team published Firedancer v26.10.2 on Oct. 13, 2026, a mainnet-ready release of its Solana validator software. NFA.

Core Release Facts

The update arrived on GitHub as a complete package for mainnet use. It carries full alignment with Solana 4.3 features according to the attached notes. Validators receive the package as a direct download from the official repository page.

Failover File Handling

Validators gain the ability to write an Agave-compatible tower file while running. This file format supports safe switches to the Agave client when needed. The mechanism runs as part of normal operation and stores the necessary history data in a format the other client can read immediately.

Identity Command Updates

The set-identity command now accepts a vote-history-file argument. Operators can require the tower file during identity changes. This addition ties the command more closely to existing state files and reduces separate manual steps.

Wait Command Introduction

A new firedancer wait command appears in the release. It pauses execution until the validator reaches a safe state for failover or exit. The command checks internal conditions and blocks further action until those conditions clear.

Expanded RPC Methods

The built-in RPC interface gains four new methods. These include getMaxRetransmitSlot, getSlotLeader, getSlotLeaders and getLeaderSchedule. Each method returns specific slot and leader data directly from the validator instance.

Entrypoint Node Role

Firedancer can now function as an entrypoint node for Agave validators. The change allows the software to serve connection points for the other client type. Network participants receive this capability as part of the same binary.

Networking Setup Addition

Mlx5 network configuration receives an extra stage. This stage loads the ib_uverbs kernel module during setup. The step fits into existing initialization sequences for compatible hardware.

Stake Delegation Path

Stake delegations obtain a fallback disk path in the configuration. The path remains unused during normal healthy operation. It provides a secondary location for data when primary paths encounter issues.

Upgrade Compatibility Note

The identity change in this version breaks compatibility with admin commands from v26.9.x binaries. Operators planning upgrades must account for this shift in command handling. The notes list the exact point of incompatibility.

The release centers on these documented additions. Each element addresses a distinct operational area listed in the notes. Validators obtain the full set through the single GitHub tag dated Oct. 13, 2026.
